Joy and I got up in the wee hours of the morning in Berlin to catch our bus to Prague, making a quick detour in Dresden, Germany before crossing the border! Joy and I immediately hopped off our bus and czeched into (get it?) our vibrant hostel. Eager to explore the city, we dropped off our bags and hopped on the tram towards the center.
Prague is beautiful! Joy and I were nearly awestruck looking at the colorful and intricate architecture. It definitely had that charming European city vibe. The architecture looked like it could have come out of a Wes Anderson film. Joy and I were truly soaking in all of the colorful alleys and adorable shops and restaurants. We eventually made our way to Old Town Square, which I loved. Truly one of my favorite places in Europe I have visited so far. Right in the Old Town Square was the intricate Astronomical Tower, which was very cool as well. Next, we tried the never-stopping elevator at Prague's City Hall. Thanks for the tip Buzzfeed!
Joy and I were eager to try the local dessert, trdlink! Trdlink is a hollow brown cinnamon sugar covered pastry of deliciousness where you can choice a filling of nutella, chocolate syrup, or ice-cream! Since they can get quite messy to eat, we stopped by the Charles Bridge to observe the beautiful view of Old Town and Prague Castle as we ate our trdlinks. We crossed the busy Charles Bridge and made our way into Old Town. The area is a bit touristy but Joy and I were eager to explore the town and did not mind. We czeched out some adorable shops and restaurants!
We then explored Stahov Monastery, paying a small ticket fee with our student ID. The Monastery also had a grand art collection which Joy and I admired for a bit. Afterwards, we walked to Prague Castle, but did not pay the ticket to go on. By the castle, there is a beautiful bird's eye view of the town, you can practically see everything. It was gorgeous! I have found that nearly every European castle is practically a mini village within itself. I did find the cathedral amazing. One of the prettiest buildings I have ever seen! Joy and I wished we planned better to have had the time to explore inside.
Afterwards, we admired the view of Old Town from the castle and shared a cheese plate for dinner and czeched out a local brewery bar and shared a delicious and cheap flight of beers! After hopping on a few wrong trams, we eventually made our way back to our hostel.
We got up in the morning and grabbed breakfast at a charming pancake place! I got bacon with peanut butter and jam pancakes, which were delicious, We walked around town and continued to marvel and admire the colorful and intricate architecture. Our first stop of the day was the Andy Warhol exhibit, which was very spunky! With the cloudy sky and rain, we decided to hit the bars a wee bit early and share a flight of beers. The sun eventually peeked out and it was the perfect opportunity to mindlessly wonder the streets of Prague for some exploring!
We walked to the Dancing House building and explored the Mala Strana neighborhood of Prague. We ventured back into Old Town for a lovely late lunch at a beautiful garden cafe with heaters. Joy and I both ordered potato pancakes (aka hash browns) and potato soup which was absolutely delicious! We czeched out the John Lennon Wall which reminded me of the East Side Gallery in Berlin!
Afterwards, we hiked up to the Petrin Gardens to watch the sunset. It was a beautiful sunset with aqua and soft pink and purple tones and a beautiful backdrop of the city. A very picturesque view. We hopped on the tram back to our hostel to unwind from the day.
Later that night, Joy and I czeched out a very cool bar with a few friends from Uni! In the building, there were four separate bars with different drinks offered at each. When you entered, you paid 5 krona for a white card which you used to pay for your drinks. There was a tree house in one bar, live music playing at another, and foosball and air hockey games at the other! Especially cool artwork covered the walls too. Definitely one of the most unique bars I have been to.
Joy and I decided to treat ourselves and sleep in the next morning! We had a less scheduled day planned ahead. We got up the next morning and grabbed breakfast at this adorable cafe called Marty's Kitchen. I ordered apple cinnamon pancakes which were delicious and snagged myself a mimosa! As Joy and I waited for our breakfast, we doodled on our napkins.
We checked out a few thrift stores and walked around Prague, eventually heading to the Jewish Quarters. After some exploring, Joy and I hiked our way back towards Prague Castle for a nice glass of rose with a beautiful view of the city. I also grabbed another trdlink with ice cream this time now! Our last stop of the day including the moving Franz Kafka statue which is just as memorizing in real life as it is in the Instagram videos. While waiting for our tram, Joy convinced me to try a slice of white pizza for dinner.
Joy and I called it an early night in at our hostel that night. We czeched out the comedy show in our hostel and packed up our luggage to our next destination tomorrow morning!
Overall, I loved Prague! I can definitely see why it is considered a romantic city with a surprisingly musical history and the colorful and beautiful architecture. My wallet was a BIG fan of Prague as well! Everything is so cheap, so if you are looking for a cheap holiday trip, Prague is definitely a place to consider! I would love to come back during the summer one day too. Off to the next adventure!
