Uni of Stirling: Week Nine

Updated: May 16, 2019

With a Reading Film & TV paper due at the end of the week, I locked myself in the library Monday morning to work on my paper. I found another cute cubby with a beautiful view of campus to get some school work done.

It was also Guy Fawkes Day, also known as Bonfire Night. It is a very casual holiday in Scotland, usually with fireworks and bonfires at night. The Mountaineering Club planned a bonfire on top of Dumyat for Guy Fawkes Day and I was excited to join in on the celebration. With headlamps on and backpacks filled with wood, we began the hike up Dumyat. Once the fire got going, it truly was a beautiful night. You could even spot the stars, a rare occurrence in Scotland since they often hide behind the rain clouds. You could watch all of the fireworks go off and everyone talked and mingled while Ben Howard and Frank Ocean played in the background. It truly was a magical moment, a memory I hope I will never forget. As some people planned to camp out under the stars, a few friends and I hiked back to campus.

Guy Fawkes Night in Stirling, Scotland

Tuesday morning, I got up to attend my lectures and seminars. I swear it is getting harder to focus each week. It is crazy to think I only have a few weeks left at Stirling. Time does fly by when you are having fun! I did have to worry about registering for classes for Xavier next semester and that was a bit stressful.

On Wednesday, I woke up and immediately worked on my Reading Film & TV essay. It was a priority to complete the paper today since I had another adventure planned. Therefore, I locked myself in the library to work on my paper for a few hours. To give myself a mental and social break, I attended the weekly Mountaineering Club dinner. It was nice to unwind for a wee bit, eat some food, and play a few mountaineering games! After the dinner, I successfully completed my paper and eagerly went to bed.

I have the wonderful opportunity to visit the Isle of Skye in Scotland this weekend which is why I wanted to finish my paper! Joy's friend rented a car for the sole purpose to explore Skye and she kindly offered me a spot. Everything worked out perfectly and I was super excited for some additional Scottish exploring. Although I was not too keen to skip my Friday classes, I knew the experiences I would make on this weekend trip would be much more memorial than a day of classes. Cheers!
